Taxes
Turkey taxes residents (more than six months' stay) on worldwide income progressively from 15% to 40%, with the minimum wage exempt; there is no wealth tax but a mild inheritance and gift tax (1%-10% / 10%-30%), VAT (KDV) is 20% and corporate tax 25%.
Residency and visas
Turkey has one of the world's most accessible citizenship programmes: citizenship against about USD 400,000 in property (or USD 500,000 in a deposit or funds), keeping your own nationality; there are also residence permits based on property or income and naturalisation after about five years.
Property ownership
Foreigners can freely buy property in their own name in Turkey (full freehold), with restrictions only in military zones and on a reciprocity basis; a purchase from about USD 400,000 can moreover confer citizenship, which makes property a strong plus here.
Cost of living and quality of life
Turkey offers low living costs, a mild Mediterranean climate and lively hubs such as Istanbul, Antalya and Bodrum, with good private healthcare; against that stand high inflation and a strongly fluctuating lira that can erode real income.
Passport and mobility
The Turkish passport reaches about 110 destinations (decent) and dual nationality is allowed, which makes acquiring a second passport without giving up the existing one attractive; there is no hard exchange control.
Residency and visas
Why people move to Türkiye
Free property and citizenship by investment
Foreigners buy property freely in full freehold in Turkey, and a purchase from about USD 400,000 can grant citizenship outright while keeping your own nationality, backed by low costs and strong hubs.
Worldwide income taxed up to 40% and currency risk
Residents pay up to 40% on worldwide income and there is an inheritance and gift tax; on top of that, high inflation and the strongly fluctuating lira erode real income, the clearest negatives for anyone settling here.
