Taxes
Tax is not an advantage here. Residents are taxed on worldwide income at a progressive rate up to 30%, and with the mandatory 10% NSSF contribution the effective burden reaches around 36% at income equivalent to EUR 54,000. Corporate tax is 30% and VAT is 18%. Capital gains for residents are 10%. There is, however, no net wealth tax and no inheritance tax.
Residency and visas
Residency runs through a residence permit. Class A is for investors, Class B for employees with local employment. Permits are temporary and must be renewed periodically. Anyone becoming resident falls under worldwide income taxation.
Property ownership
Foreigners cannot acquire freehold land, because all land is public. Access runs through a derivative right, a TIC investment, or a long lease. Apartments can be held in ownership under the Strata Titles legislation.
Cost of living and quality of life
Tanzania offers safari and nature, Mount Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar and a long coastline. The cost of living is low, but internet, healthcare and banking services are less developed than in the Netherlands.
Passport and mobility
The Tanzanian passport gives visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to roughly 70 destinations, which is internationally limited. For Dutch nationals settling there this does not change their own passport.
Why people move to Tanzania
Nature and coastal living
From safari and Mount Kilimanjaro to the beaches of Zanzibar, Tanzania combines exceptional nature with tropical coastal living and a low cost of living.
Growth market with an investment route
As a growing East African economy, Tanzania offers opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors, with a residency route via a Class A investor permit.
Honest trade-offs
