Why people move to Bulgaria
10% flat tax — lowest in the EU
Both personal income tax and corporate tax are just 10%, with a 5% dividend withholding tax. This makes Bulgaria fiscally attractive for self-employed individuals, holding structures, and retirees with investment income.
EU membership with affordable living costs
As an EU member, Bulgaria offers free movement of persons, goods, and capital, while living costs are among the EU's lowest. Rental prices in Sofia are 60–70% lower than in Amsterdam or Paris.
Simple EU residency procedure with path to citizenship
EU citizens register simply at the local municipality; non-EU nationals have several visa routes. After 5 years of legal residence, permanent residency or naturalisation is available, granting access to the Bulgarian passport (171+ visa-free destinations).
